Dycie Hancock Campbell Schneider taught me in second grade at Oconee Street Elementary School. Many years later, when I sold the manuscript that became my first published book, Gone From These Woods, I visited my teacher at the personal care home where she lived the last years of her life. Mrs. Dycie, as we called her, inspired my book. Sadly, she died not long after our visit.
